With an extensive network of partner institutions on six continents, Stellenbosch University is not only changing the lives of its students, but its staff as well. Staff are afforded an international experience both abroad and at home.
When SU staff are exposed to their peers abroad, it gives them a chance to assess and align their standard of work with global best practice. It also promotes internationalisation at SU. For this reason, SU International offers mobility grants to roughly 50 SU staff (both academic and support staff) every year to visit their counterparts at partner institutions. These opportunities are funded through bilateral agreements, the International Collaborations Mobility Grant, the BRICS grant and the Erasmus+ programme.
The University has imposed a temporary ban on all international travel for staff and students. This ban also extends to international guests visiting the University. The travel embargo will be in place until 30 June 2020. Staff and students who are abroad at the moment will have to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days when they return. The official communication can be found here http://www.sun.ac.za/english/covid-19-coronavirus-disease-2019
While the University cannot prohibit staff and students from traveling in their private capacity, we urge individuals to please act responsibly in making plans that involve international travel. On your return you will also be expected to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days. To limit the risk of the spread of COVID-19, staff and students who do contract the virus due to private travel, will not be allowed to return to work, class or a residence until they are fit to do so.
SU International will support and help facilitate (if needed) the postponement of staff mobility scheduled to take place during January to June 2020 up to the first semester in 2021. If you are currently on your mobility, kindly take note of the self-quarantine stipulation as above. All our international bilateral partners were informed about the travel ban and are supportive of our decision.
The current staff mobility call will proceed as normal as the mobilities are scheduled to take place from 1 July to 31 December 2020. We will update applicants of any changes, should they occur.
**Kindly note that we will proceed with the usual selection process. However, due to the Covid-19 situation, mobilities might not be able to occur within the communicated timelines. We will keep a close eye on how the situation unfolds and will align our processes with the University’s as well as the National policies.
We will keep you posted. Any questions, please contact Lidia on email@example.com
