NEW CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: BRICS Collaboration Grant (BCG) 2017

 

SU International is proud to launch the BRICS Collaboration Grant. The BCG provides funding for SU academic staff to establish or strengthen academic collaboration with counterparts based at one or more institutions in the BRICS countries. Preference will be given to activities with members of the BRICS Network University and existing bilateral partners on this list:

The following three categories of funding is available and 5-8 awards will be made:

1. Category 1: Exploratory visit

This category is for staff who wish to establish a new contact i.e there is no existing collaboration between you/your academic environment and the institution you intend to visit.

Allocation between R30 000-R45 000

 

2. Category 2: Research visit to one or more institutions in BRICS countries

This category is for staff who have existing collaboration with an academic environment at the institution you intend to visit.

Allocation between R30 000 – R45 000

 

3. Category 3: Host research visitor(s) from one or more institutions in BRICS countries

This category is for staff who wish to host visitors from an institution with whom we have an existing collaboration.

Allocation between R20 000 – R40 000

 

Terms and conditions

  • Only full-time staff members (permanent or contract) of Stellenbosch University are eligible to apply.
  • The BRICS Collaboration Grant should supplement funding obtained from other sources (e.g. Dean’s fund, research fund, third stream funds) and should not exceed 60% of the total budget to a maximum of the amounts stipulated per category.
  • The applicant must indicate how the funding will support collaboration with one or more institutions in the BRICS countries whether at the level of research, teaching or capacity development.
  • An applicant will only be eligible to apply for the same category of the grant every two years.
  • The award of the grant will be made on a competitive basis. Applications are reviewed by an internal panel based on quality and potential impact on the strengthening of SU’s footprint in the BRICS countries.

 

Reporting

Successful applicants must submit a report on completion of the grant activities. The report will be generated through an online questionnaire provided by SU International within one month after the completion date.

 

The 2017 call for applications will be open from 17 July – 29 September 2017 for activities starting after October 2017 until 30 June 2018. Download application form here.
