Notes:
Rheumatoid arthritis causes synovial inflammation and thickening. Involvement of the synovial sheath causes the tendons to appear thickened and tender. Later rupture may occur. It is common on the extensor tendons of the hand. If diagnosed before rupture excision of the inflamed synovium may prevent this complication.
