Stellenbosch post-doctoral students who work in the field of environmental science were invited to participate in a research project of the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST).

Participating scientists attended a popular science-writing workshop, presented by Elsabé Brits and Leonie Joubert, two award-winning science writers.

The workshop was designed to improve skills and confidence in science writing for a lay audience, including policymakers and research funders.

This training opportunity formed part of an MPhil project by Grethe Bestbier, supervised by Dr Marina Joubert, and aimed to measure the effects of such training on scientists’ writing skills and self-confidence.

The training was presented online, in three two-hour slots on 3, 5 and 7 August 2020 respectively, from 10:00 to 12:00 each day.
