Project time line: 2015 – 2017

Despite the enormous differences that exist among African countries in terms of geography, history, economics, politics, culture, African development has traditionally been described based on a one-dimensional narrative, with the continent regarded as a homogenous unit.

This research project brings together discussion around transformation in the process of development and reflected on the values that redefine development under the conditions of multidimensional globalisation, technological change, multiculturalism, and ecological consciousness.

A book resulting from the project, due for release in 2018, will group recent approaches, and the latest empirical research findings in the areas of economic and human development and governance, to present an articulated and comprehensive vision of the options and alternatives that may shape Africa’s future. Multiple African scholars will contribute to this book, making it a unique collection of contemporary perspectives on African development by African scholars located in Africa.
