Welcome to the 2023 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Conference Website!

Stellenbosch University Division for Learning and Teaching Enhancement is pleased to announce the 16th offering of the annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) from 30 October to 1 November 2023.

This year will be an in-person event, hosted at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS).

The purpose of this conference is to create a space where academics can come together to share and celebrate teaching, learning, and assessment at the institution. It provides a platform where academics can:

  • Share good practices, research findings and innovative ideas about T-L-A
  • Reflect on and debate about T-L-A methods, trends and goals within the current context
  • Celebrate T-L-A achievements

This year’s theme is Academic Renewal towards Transformative Teaching – Learning – Assessment in Service of Society. The keynote address will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Chrissie Boughey.

As the Division of Learning and Teaching Enhancement, we recognise that critical academic renewal asks us to enable students to understand and apply “the forms of knowledge and ways of knowing that underpin the academy” (Boughey 2023) – in essence, providing epistemological access (Morrow 1993). We see this as a critical and core mandate of a higher education institution that aims to advance knowledge that is in service of society.

This internal conference is free and attendance is exclusively for Stellenbosch University staff. All conference updates will be frequently loaded on this website, and through SU notices and newsletters.
