Corporate governance and our position within Stellenbosch University


Stellenbosch University was established in 1866, and it acquired university status in 1918. Today, it is one of the top research institutions in Africa. The University has an impressive track record of research output and scientific contribution to the improvement of health outcomes of vulnerable populations in Africa.

Stellenbosch University is a mature organisation with extensive operational policies and procedures to promote effective communication, coordination and decision making. It implements efficient and transparent financial management and internal control systems. This is done in compliance with sound corporate governance and the provisions of the Universities Act.

As a programme within the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University, South to South has the strong operational and institutional support required for innovative and research-based programme development and implementation.

At South to South, team-based management is the norm, creating a sense of shared responsibility for outcomes. We focus our efforts on
- creating new standards;
- anticipating needs;
- institutionalising continuous improvement; and
- striving towards finding creative solutions.
Under the directorship of Dr. I.O. Oluwatimilehin (Clinical Programme Director) and Carin du Toit (Operations Director), the South to South management team reports to Prof Mark Cotton (Principal Investigator) and the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The senior South to South management team is supported by Ntiyiso Shingwenyana (Health Programmes Manager), Beryl Green (Programme Manager: Training and Development) and Admire Chirowodza (Programme Manager: Strategic Information).
