Profile

Luke currently heads up the Food Systems Center at the Sustainability Institute and serves a regional coordinator in the African Climate Change Adaptation Initiative – a pan-African research and capacity building network working to food system resilience using transdisciplinary research methods. Luke provides ongoing strategic support to the Stellenbosch Agroecology Academy which seeks capacitate land reform through a four year agricultural skills development programme for young farmers. He is a researcher at the CST, an Extraordinary Lecturer on Stellenbosch University’s MPhil in Sustainable Development and founder of SI Explorers which runs immersive learning journeys for post-graduate students in South Africa, India and Nepal.

Luke’s research focus lies at the intersect between youth unemployment, skills development and food system reform. Past research clients include Ernst & Young, WWF, GIZ, DIFID.

He holds a BA in Applied Design, an MPhil in Sustainable Development and is currently enrolled for a PhD at Stellenbosch University.
