A total of 16 players of the Steinhoff Maties Hockey Club will be in action in the brand new Premier Hockey League.
The league – which is based on the same concept as the Indian Premier League for cricket – will be played over the four weekends of September in Johannesburg.
The South African under-21 teams will also play in the PHL. The men’s team is the Golden Gate Gladiators and the women play as Namaqualand Daisies. The Maties in the Golden Gate Gladiators are Alex Stewart, Rob McKinley, Charlie Bowren and Matt de Sousa, while Tarryn Glasby, Christine Seggie, Dani Cairns and Alegra Dijkstra play for the Daisies.
Keenan Horne and Reece Arendse play for the Garden Route Gazelles. Fellow Matie Dylan Swanepoel was also in the team, but had to withdraw due to injury. James Drummond and Jacques Bleeker represent the Maropeng Cavemen, while Luke Schooling will be in action for the Drakensberg Dragons.
Three Maties women – Nicole La Fleur, Natasha Rootenberg and Heather McEwan – all play for the Wine Country Wings.

‘n Totaal van 16 spelers van die Steinhoff Maties Hokkieklub speel in die splinternuwe Premier Hokkie Liga.
Die liga – wat op dieselfde konsep as die Indiese Premerliga krieket gebaseer is – word die vier naweke van September in Johannesburg beslis.
Die Suid-Afrikaanse o.21-spanne sal ook in die PHL speel. Die manspan is die Golden Gate Gladiators en die vroue speel as Namaqualand Daisies. Die Maties in die Golden Gate Gladiators is Alex Stewart, Rob McKinley, Charlie Bowren en Matt de Sousa, terwyl Tarryn Glasby, Christine Seggie, Dani Cairns en Alegra Dijkstra vir die Daisies speel.
