Academic writing workshops
Are you a postgraduate student struggling to write your thesis or dissertation? Are you still stuck at the proposal? Are you worried about writing articles? The Language Centre presents workshops particularly aimed at master’s and doctoral students in various fields of study, addressing writing issues that researchers commonly experience. The objective of the workshops is to enable you to plan, write and edit effectively. We cover aspects of the writing process, internal organisation, coherence, style, external structure, editing and more.
We address the following main areas:
- Audience and purpose of scientific writing
- Research topics, problem statements and hypotheses
- Structure of the research project
- Coherence and cohesion, including paragraphing and argumentation
- Scientific writing style
- Referencing techniques
On request, we will present tailor-made courses or workshops to specific departments. The planning, development and presentation of these courses or workshops are done in cooperation with the lecturers in the various departments.
These workshops can be designed for different groups (lecturers and/or honours, master’s or doctoral students) and the various needs of different faculties or departments (for example workshops on the requirements of technical writing, proposal writing or seminar writing).
The workshops are presented in English and/or Afrikaans, depending on the participants’ needs.
Please view our workshop programme for more information about the different types of workshops, registration forms and costs or contact Selene Delport at firstname.lastname@example.org or 021 808 2947 for more information.
