Problems with Giant cell tumors
Notes:
Majority occur about the knee. This undermines the joint stability and leads to collapse, angulation and early Osteoarthritis - even if the tumor has been effectively removed.
Recurrence is seen often (10%) this may be due to inadequate tumor removal initially or perhaps because of a more aggressive form of the tumor.
Although considered benign, the tumor may metastasize to lung (3.5%)
These lung lesions are usually histology similar to the primary lesion ( benign looking). They are easily excised.
