BAcc

Admission requirements

The BAcc programme is highly regarded and remains one of the most sought-after undergraduate training programmes if you aim to become a professional accountant one day. As a chartered accountant, you will be equipped to audit companies' financial statements, a function that enjoys statutory protection. 'Statutory protection' means there is a law that stipulates that certain companies' books must be audited and that only specific professions may do so. You will also be in demand for various other positions such as financial manager, management accountant or taxation expert.

   The training of chartered accountants

To obtain the internationally recognised, professional accounting qualification of chartered accountant (CA), you have to pass the examinations of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). You also have to meet its stated requirements for practical experience. The SAICA syllabus prepares candidates in Financial Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Management Accounting, and related disciplines to function as chartered accountants in the private or public sector.

SAICA recognises our BAcc degree. Therefore, if you obtain your BAcc and BAccHons degrees at Stellenbosch University (SU), you will be allowed to sit for the first part of SAICA's professional examination.
