BCom (Industrial Psychology)

Admission requirements

This programme trains you for a career in the management of human resources in organisations. After completing your BCom (Industrial Psychology), also obtain a BComHons (Industrial Psychology). Follow this up with the six-month BPsych Equivalence programme, and then pass the professional board examination. You then qualify for statutory registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a psychometrist (independent practice). You may be eligible for statutory registration as industrial psychologist with the HPCSA by completing the MCom (Industrial Psychology) programme, an internship of twelve months and sitting successfully for the professional board examination for industrial psychologists.

   The training of psychometrists

Since 1 January 2006, a new training model has applied for qualifying as a psychometrist. For this, you first study Industrial Psychology for four years by taking and completing the BCom and BComHons (Industrial Psychology) degrees. Then you do a practicum internship (in the case of an accredited honours degree) or a six-month BPsych Equivalence programme consisting of practical work under a registered psychologist's supervision at an organisation. This practical training must be in psychometric assessment. After completing the practical work, you write the professional board examination set by the Psychometrics Committee of the Professional Board for Psychology. You must pass with an average of at least 70%.

See the curriculum in the Faculty's Calendar.
