On 3 March 2018, the Centenary Fun Walk started out in a reflective mood at the Old Lückhoff School in Banghoek Road in Stellenbosch. This was chosen as the starting point to recognise residents who were forcibly removed from ‘Die Vlakte’ during apartheid. In Victoria Street, students from the Military Academy and the band of the RSA Navy joined the walk and led the way through the campus to Coetzenburg. At Coetzenburg, the walk concluded with a flag-hoisting ceremony by the Military Academy, as well as speeches by a representative from the SA Defence Force and the Stellenbosch University rector.
After the event, participants could join in the fun of the Woordfees Family Day, with entertainment by ‘Peter and the Wolf’, as well as various artists, including Les Jevan, Theuns Jordaan, Jeremy Loops and Jimmy Nevis.
