AWEI Lecture by Prof Francis Vorhies
Department of Animal Sciences, Faculty of AgriSciences
This lecture explored the meaning of wildlife and conservation in the context of international sustainable development policy and the challenges of policy coherence.
It focused on four key international biodiversity policies:
1975: Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
1980: World Conservation Strategy: Living Resource Conservation for Sustainable Development (WCS)
1992: Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
2015: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Is there a place for wildlife and conservation in sustainable development?
Can we enhance policy coherence between CITES, WCS, CBD, and the 2030 Agenda?
