The Cape Leopard Trust

Research - Conservation - Education

The Cape Leopard Trust is an active predator conservation working group. It uses research as a tool for conservation, finding solutions to human-wildlife conflict and inspiring interest in the environment through an interactive and dynamic environmental education programme. Since its inception in 2004, the CLT has become an authority on predator conservation in the Cape, and one of the leading authorities in South Africa.

AWEI and the CLT are developing a research and engagement programme to explore options for sustaining wildlife populations in the winelands of the Western Cape, particularly wildlife that is preyed upon by both leopards and people. The programme will address such issues as the use of wire snares for harvesting, engaging landowners as well as local authorities, and enhancing livelihoods and community well-being. The programme will also share insights and lessons learned with others across the continent facing similar challenges.
