Joseph Goergen is an aspiring leader in international wildlife conservation and a graduate student at Michigan State University's College of Agriculture & Natural Resources in East Lansing, Michigan, USA. Pursuing an MSc in Conservation Biology, he holds a Boone and Crockett Fellowship in Wildlife Conservation within the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. With a focus on community-based natural resource management in southern Africa, Joseph aims to understand the environmental and social mechanisms for tourism benefit capture by conservancies in Namibia, the impact of hunting and photographic industries on rural wildlife economies, and the role of governance in the financial sustainability of communal land.
Joseph's dedication to wildlife conservation extends beyond academia, as he serves as the International Policy and Public Affairs Specialist at Jamma International advocating for evidence-based and pro-human rights policy in international wildlife conservation on behalf of African community organisations and partners. He also contributes significantly to the field as the Managing Editor for Conservation Frontlines where he generates content and provides communications advice for their e-newsletter, covering complex wildlife management and sustainable use conservation topics.
