Senior Advisor - Operations
Ms Deborah Vorhies is an expert with a demonstrated history in the fields of management, policy, finance, sustainability and corporate social responsibility. She holds degrees in law (Stellenbosch), accounting (UNISA), an MBA in Finance (Witwatersrand), and an MA in Philosophy (Buckingham). Her MBA thesis was on the economics of elephants and her MA thesis was on the ethics of hunting.
Her previous positions include head of the Financial Institutions Initiative and Trade & Environment Unit Coordinator, UN Environment Programme; Senior Biodiversity Finance Officer, International Finance Corporation; and Managing Director, International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development. Deborah is currently the CEO of the FairWild Foundation which supports a standard and certification programme for the equitable and sustainable harvesting of wild plants.
Deborah supported AWEI from 2018 to 2023 in the voluntary role of interim Chief Operating Officer. In 2024, she will continue to provide strategic operations advice as well as support the development of our programme of research and engagement on standards for wildlife enterprise.
