An assessment of the economic, social and conservation value of the wildlife ranching industry and its potential to support the green economy in South Africa
As a result of the lack of research into wildlife ranching and the important challenges this brings to the development of the sector, we initiated a study with the aim of making a national assessment of the scale of wildlife ranching in South Africa and attempted to answer the following questions:
- What is the economic value of the wildlife ranching industry in South Africa?
- What are the ecological and environmental impacts of the wildlife ranching industry in South Africa and what are their contributions to biodiversity conservation?
- What are the social impacts of the wildlife ranching industry in South Africa?
- What are the trends in the wildlife ranching industry?
- What are the drivers and constraints, the risks and opportunities for the industry?
- What are the necessary interventions required to maximize benefits and address problems associated with the industry and its development?
