Emeritus Professor Chrissie Boughey
Postgraduate Supervision Conference Key SpeakerChrissie Boughey is an emeritus professor of Rhodes University and a professor extraordinaire at the University of Stellenbosch. Her field of interest can be broadly described as ‘Higher Education Studies’ although, within this larger field, she has developed an interest in postgraduate education largely because of her involvement in several projects aimed at enhancing doctoral education on the African continent. She draws on critical social theory in all her work and is particularly interested in the impact on Neo-liberalism and globalisation on students’ experiences.
Thanks to funding from Nuffic and the European Union, she has been involved in supervisor development programmes for many years. She has recently edited a collection of essays written by supervisors who had completed a supervision course she was involved in developing and facilitating which is about to be published by Vrije University Press.
Chrissie is a Coordinating Editor of the journal Higher Education and a member of the Editorial Boards of Teaching in Higher Education, Arts and Humanities in Higher Education and the International Journal of Academic Development.
