Madeleine Basson

Profile

Madeleine Basson holds a BA in Law, double majoring in English Studies and Psychology, and Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development (cum laude) from Stellenbosch University. She is currently a Sustainable Development MPhil student at the Centre for Sustainability Transitions, also at Stellenbosch University.

Madeleine’s current inquiry considers food system governance in South Africa within the broader context of national food insecurity. Her research incorporates both her undergraduate and postgraduate studies and is grounded on the right to access food as stated in the constitution of South African. Her research will contribute to a better understanding of the disconnect between food availability and access.

Food system transitions has long been an interest of Madeleine’s and guided by her love of people and determination to effect meaningful change in the world. She hopes to contribute to the critical discourse on food system transitions in South Africa.
