Dr O’Farrell will introduce the concept of natural capital accounting and why it is important. Natural Capital Accounting is part of a larger process to develop the System of Environmental Economic Accounting Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA EA). SEEA EA constitutes an integrated and comprehensive framework for organizing data about habitats and landscapes, measuring the ecosystem services, tracking changes in ecosystem assets, and linking this information to economic and other human activity. Dr O’Farrell will also showcase some examples of this approach being piloted in South Africa.
