Project Description

The Just Urban Transitions project convenes critical local government stakeholders to identify and address energy transition challenges to local government. In the first phase of the project convened over 30 local government stakeholders and problematised critical areas where municipal practitioners and their partners need support and intervention to ensure that municipalities are able to maintain sustainable distribution businesses.

The next phase of the project seeks to establish a policy lab model, which coordinates a collection of working groups, or “policy labs” comprised of experienced practitioners to develop specific proposals to respond to these identified problems. The CST and Lauren Hermanus support SALGA by coordinating convening of stakeholders and guiding the methodology. SEA support with coordinating labs targeting specific issues such as energy poverty and access.

As the proposals emerge out of the policy labs, the work will be used, through SALGA to guide change in policies, programmes and regulations to enable sustainable grid communities in local government.
