Nametso Dorothy Phonchi-Tshekiso

Profile

Nametso D. Phonchi-Tshekiso, is a first year PhD candidate funded by USAID, through the Resilient Waters Project. She has a Masters in Environmental Science (MSc) from the University of Botswana as a Barclays F.G Mogae scholar, and a BA (Humanities) in Environmental Science and Sociology. She has worked at the Parliament of Botswana as a social and environmental researcher, and is currently on study leave as a Research Fellow at the Okavango Research Institute at the University of Botswana. She is also a creative writer, an author (Stories from the Sun Anthology) and a multilingual spoken word poet.

Her MSc research applied the economic theory of consumer demand and GIS to explore the community’s willingness to pay for improved waste management services in Lobatse, Botswana. Her recent academic work and publications have explored natural resource management, hazardous waste management and land policy especially in Okavango delta communities in Botswana. She is currently registered under the Faculty of Economic Management Sciences and her PhD research explores the large-scale land acquisition and land governance in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, from a political ecology & social ecological justice perspective.
