CLINIC

The KID CRU research unit serves the community of Cape Town through research and comprehensive health care that is being rendered here. All individuals participating in any research that is being conducted in KIDCRU are being treated with dignity and respect and offered the best medical care. We believe in a holistic approach and every person is first a human being then a research participant. For this reason health management take precedence over research. No patient safety will be compromised at any stage of our research in KIDCRU. The studies are done in accordance with guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and with the Declaration of Helsinki (version 2008). These are policy statements that protect the rights of study participants.

KIDCRU consists of nurses, doctors, social worker, counsellors, laboratory staff, data management staff, pharmacists, administrative staff, drivers and general workers. For this reason the patient can get all the healthcare needed immediately when necessary and as KIDCRU is situated in Tygerberg Hospital patients can be referred for additional health care services as needed. There are currently +/- 15 studies being done in KIDCRU of which each study has a dedicated group of healthcare workers that work together as a team to make the trial a success.

In the last 10 years since KIDCRU have grown in numbers and standards. We have a community advisory board CAB)that is also 10 years old who serves the research teams and the community. The CAB and adolescent CAB is actively busy and give input from the communities regarding research that they would like to be done and their feelings about the current research studies that are being conducted.
