This past Friday, the 23rd of September, Helderberg made history. For the first time in sixteen years, Helderberg were crowned victors of the Sauer Residence Rugby League. The team played with their hearts on their sleeves to defeat Huis Marais 21-15 in the final, that was played in the Danie Craven stadium.

Having last won the competition in 2000, the night was memorable for Helderberg, who held for the win after leading the game 14-5 at halftime. This would be the fourth time that Helderberg would win the Sauer, having also done so in 1960, 1973 and 2000.

However, this is not the end of the road – Helderberg will now represent the University in the Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby Championship in 2017.

A final congratulation to the First Team – you guys made us immensely proud to be part of the Swarra Army!
