This past Saturday, the Swarra Stix made the Republic proud by finishing third in the annual Inter-residence tournament. They started the day off well, by beating Dagbreek 1-0, with the lads claiming a 5-0 win against Majuba, who did not show up. They went on to beat Pieke 4-1, before unfortunately losing to Olympus in the semi-final. Nevertheless, the Swarra Stix bounced back and thrashed Huis Visser 4-1 in the 3rd-4th play-off, with first year Blake ‘Rafiki’ Tyack scoring the sickest goal in the history of hockey. Blake received a magnificent through ball to be one-on-one with the goalkeeper, however, he did not take the shot; he turned his back on the keeper, flicked the ball up and lobbed the keeper over his own back for an absolutely sensational goal.

The weekend before, the Swarra first year hockey side achieved the same feat as the seniors a week later – also placing third in the First Year’s Tournament. They, however, beat Academia 5-1 in their playoff match to claim the third spot.

Well done to all the participating hockey players, you did us immensely proud!
