PHARMACY

The unit facilities include a dedicated research pharmacy, registered as KIDCRU Pharmacy with the South African Pharmacy Council. The pharmacy is based in the unit at J8. As a research pharmacy, it is only involved with studies conducted at KIDCRU. The pharmacy complies with GCP standards and the regulations of the national drug control body, the Medicine Control Council.

Activities comprise of the procurement of study drugs, correct storage of drug, dispensing to study patients, adherence monitoring and the disposal of all drugs according to. All protocols are strictly followed and records are maintained accordingly. Access to the pharmacy is controlled. Pharmacy room temperature, fridges and freezers are strictly monitored. Pharmacy staff includes a responsible pharmacist, two back-up pharmacists and a pharmacist’s assistant. Pharmacy staff assists in training when a need is identified.
