Just about every medical practitioner has, at some time or other to deal with an elderly patient complaining of hip pain after a fall.

This video slide show explains the pitfalls of missing an occult proximal femur fracture and the necessity of examining the whole patient for signs of other disease processes. The patient must be resuscitated - they are often dehydrated, and made fit for theater. The talk also explains the classification and appropriate surgical management in the most common types.
