Digital Alumni Newsletter | Autumn 2020

Having just concluded our annual Homecoming and Family Weekend in early March 2020, we found ourselves starkly confronted by the outbreak of this pandemic soon thereafter. As you may be aware – we have cancelled our various in-person alumni engagement events globally through to the end of June 2020 and will keep you posted regarding how some of these activities will be converted into online events. So, watch this space!

As an institution we, at SU are guided by our Vision 2040 motto of “forward, together” – more so in times of crises such as the one that we are experiencing currently. We would like to thank you as Maties for remaining loyal and passionate, even during these unprecedented times for all of us - wherever you find yourself located in the world. Thank you for staying committed to SU and remaining engaged – albeit digitally. It’s is highly appreciated.

I am hopeful that as we recover from the impact of this pandemic, we will have a stronger sense of solidarity as alumni and indeed global citizens. This is a momentary pause in events and travel, but Stellenbosch University's commitment to education as a means to transform lives and society, remains steadfast and unshaken.

For our alumni who have not yet signed up to our digital platforms, this is the ideal opportunity to connect with us and your fellow Maties by joining Maties Connect. Visit to sign up today!

We look forward to keeping you updated over the coming weeks through our social media networks and welcome, as always, your engagement with us. Please do not hesitate to reach out via if you have any queries or wish to share your experiences during this time.

Our Alumni Relations team is currently working remotely and will keep you informed of developments here at SU. Moreover, be sure to follow our social media channels via Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter for daily updates. Our #LockedDownWithGratitude online campaign is one of the ways we are remaining connected to our alumni during this time of uncertainty. Feel free to share these inspirational stories and share your own with us if you so wish.

As we look forward towards life after COVID-19, we hope to be able to welcome you to the opening of our Alumni Club at Die Stal at some point in the second half of 2020. This is of course dependent on the outlook for the pandemic and the subsequent lifting of the restrictions on social gatherings. So, do stay in touch with us and follow our range of online channels for news and updates on how we will move forward together as Maties.

Please take care and keep safe.

With warmest regards.
