Digital Alumni Newsletter | Winter 2022

With that said, we are ready to roll out the maroon carpet for Homecoming 2022, taking place from Thursday 8 September to Saturday 10 September! Be sure to book your spot, start making accommodation enquiries through www.visitstellenbosch.org, gather your Matie friends through WhatsApp or Facebook or by word of mouth, sign up to Maties Connect via www.matiesconnect.com and follow our social media channels for the very latest updates.

This will be our first in-person Homecoming and Family Weekend after two years of lockdown and we’re absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to reconnect with as many of you as possible. Do join our students, alumni, families, and friends for one of our largest annual gatherings.

There will be so much for you to experience.

Homecoming kicks off with a SWAN Golf Day; the first-year groups of 1981 and 1982, 1991 and 1992, 2001 and 2002, 2011 and 2012 will meet up in Stellenbosch; while the 1982, 1992, and 2012 graduates of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences are getting together on the Tygerberg campus.

Our residences and PSOs are getting in on the action. Join in the Wilgenhof Annual Day, Majuba’s 55th birthday spitbraai reunion, Goldfields’ 35th reunion dinner, Helderberg’s 75th reunion spitbraai, Serruria’s 45th brunch, Huis ten Bosch’s 85th brunch, Helderberg’s 75th celebrations, or Heemstede’s 55th brunch. Don’t miss the Hombré house meeting and spitbraai, the Eendrag 61 Alumni Talks or formal dinner, and Metanoia 16th birthday celebrations.

The Stellenbosch University Business School has planned a business breakfast; and we’ve put together a Matie Soirée in partnership with Meridian Wines at the Alumni Clubhouse at Die Stal with Matie winemakers as well as non-alcoholic beverage innovators. Of course, there will also be great music.

Moreover, our international alumni chapters continue to provide opportunities for you to connect with us and one another wherever you may find yourself located in the world – so, look out for international Homecoming activities if you’re based abroad.

I trust that you will find this last issue of our electronic e-Matieland alumni newsletter an interesting and informative read. There are inspiring stories on recent alumni peer-to-peer activities and Maties who enthusiastically raised funds to support student success at SU by participating in this year’s CTCT, Joberg2C race, Croatia Adventure Race, as well as the ultimate MTB Cape Epic, amongst others. We also tell you about an alumnus whose selfless act saved a human life and resulted in him receiving a medal of bravery from the Royal Humane Society.

In other news …

We will soon transition this newsletter into a new and exciting alumni magazine – focused entirely on you, our loyal and valued alumni. The new magazine will be produced in both print and digital format and adapted for tablets and mobile phones to make it much easier for you to navigate. Our team is delighted to launch this new alumni magazine later this year – so, watch this space!

Warm regards
