Maties Hockey Club is still dominating the Western Province Grand Challenge. Both the men’s and women’s teams are the defending champions and currently in the lead this season.
Over the weekend Steinhoff Maties won their matches against Pinelands after also beating Vics on Thursday.
Steinhoff Maties men have played and won nine matches and is in the lead with 27 points. Fish Hoek is second with 18 points. On Thursday Maties won the match against Vics at Coetzenburg with 6-0. Dave Agar (2), Keenan Horne, Rob Edwards, Dylan Swanepoel and James Drummond scored the goals. Against Pinelands Cameron Corney, Dave Agar, Keenan Horne, Matt de Sousa and Brad Logan had the scoreboard ticking in the 6-0 victory. Maties will next play UCT on Wednesday.
The women’s team also got two victories from two matches when they got the better of Vics (2-0) and Pinelands (2-0). Tarryn Glasby and Sherry King scored against Vics, while King and Suleke Brand got goals against Pinelands. Maties (27) have won nine of ten matches and lead WPCC (16) in the standings. Vics are currently third with 15 points. Maties next game is Saturday against Somerset West at Hartleyvale. Vics are up against Central also at Hartleyvale.
