Both finals in the Steinhoff Summer League were tightly contested affairs.
Libertas won the men’s final against Simonsberg with 1-0, while the women’s final between Aristea and Oud-Studente II was decided with a penalty shoot-out. The score was 1-1 after regular playing time and then the Oud-Studente won the shoot-out 3-2.
In the women’s final Aristea created some great scoring opportunities, but they did not manage to finish it off. The players of Oud-Studente used their chances better and their defence held in the testing conditions. It was obvious why these two teams played in the final. The game was entertaining to watch thanks to some good passing and creative play. Oud-Studente did not lose a single match in the league and conceded only one goal that was the one scored in the final.
The men’s final was a fierce battle with both teams gunning for glory. It was the second time in three years that Simonsberg played in the final and it was plain to see that this team badly wanted the trophy. The more crafty and experienced Libertas side got the result in the end when they scored mere minutes before the end of the match to avoid a shoot-out. Playmakers like James Drummond (Libertas) did make a difference to the match, while it was clear that youngster South African u19-captain from the Youth Olympics Bili Ntuli (Simonsberg) will make an impression at the Steinhoff Maties club this year.
