Steinhoff Maties Hockey Player Dylan Swanepoel made his senior national debut for the South African men’s hockey team in 2013 at the African Cup – qualifying tournament for the Hockey World Cup. Swanepoel, who matriculated from Paul Roos Gymnasium in 2011, also captained the SA u21 team in 2013 at the Junior World Cup.

Swanepoel is a defender who is focused on keeping it simple and he does not try to be flashy or fancy.

For now Swanepoel wants to cement his place in the senior team and finish his studies at the Stellenbosch University where he is currently a third year student. After getting his degree Swanepoel has set his sights on playing club hockey in Europe and going to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

  • Captained the South African u.21 team to the 2013 Junior World Cup.
  • Played a total of 12 games for the u.21 national team.

  • Played in series in Argentina (away) and Germany (home) in 2014.
  • Vice-captain for the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.
  • Played in the 2014 Hockey World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands.

  • Varsity Hockey Player of the Series 2014.
  • SA u.21 IPT Player of the tournament 2013
  • Represented SA in the World League 2015

CAREER GOALS

  • Get selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
  • Get selected for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
  • Being part of the Hockey India League – the equivalent of the Indian Premier League for cricket.
  • After finishing my studies I want to play in the European Hockey League.
