Culture

Huis Visser enjoys participation in many cultural activities, including the following:

Our Sêr team (The Sailors) are well-known in the Sêr (SU Acapella) competition, which is an inter-residence singing competition. In 2018 the Sailors achieved 2nd place. In 2019, the Sailors finished 3rd overall and won a few individual prizes as well: Max Koenig was awarded Best Male Soloist and the Award for Best Own Composition.
We compete annually in Molasse Ser as well, and have many Huis Visser gentlemen representing the residence in the Stellenbosch University Choir, arguably the most recognized choir in the world (Currently ranked no. 1 on the Interkultur World Choir Rankings).

Huis Visser also gives everything when it comes to Vensters. In 2017 we took home the gold with our Vensters partners, Minerva. The 2018 season saw a great performance with our partners Heemstede and in 2019 the Snoekies and ISA paired up and delivered an excellent show. The 2021 performance produced a brilliat film that fiished with a respectable 7th place under interesting Cocid arrangements.

In other cultural spheres, Huis Visser competes in the annual Toneelfees, which allows residents to show off their various stage and acting talents. In 2018 our Toneelfees production made it to the finals

At Huis Visser we strongly encourage cultural participation, and strive to use our different cultural backgrounds to work together and achieve common goals, thereby promoting unity through individuality. With termly culture evenings, some being interrnal, others being in partnership with other female residences, we see a very large turnout and massive support and community involvement around cultural activities.
