As part of their studies at SU, students can apply for a semester exchange or winter/summer school opportunity at one of our partner universities.
Semester exchanges: Students can attend a semester abroad and transfer credits back to SU or do research abroad.
Winter/summer schools: While it is not possible for all students to go abroad for a semester exchange, SU International does offer opportunities for students to take part in shorter academic courses during the June/July holidays.
Through internationalisation @ home initiatives, SU International gives students an opportunity to develop a global mindset and become engaged citizens. SU students can take part in the following:
Short courses: Global Citizenship Programme
Short courses with a global perspective and a travel component are presented in collaboration with the Frederik van Zyl Slabbert Leadership Institute.
SU Summer School
During the mid-year break, SU International presents the SU Summer School for international students. SU students can also participate, giving them an opportunity to explore South Africa and the world through interactions with international students.
Be a Matie Buddy
SU students can apply for the Matie Buddy programme. Matie Buddies are paired with incoming international students to provide information and guidance that assist international students with their transition to Stellenbosch life.
SU/KU Leuven Student Think Tank
Launched in 2015, students from the two universities collaborate and interact on issues affecting them and the world that they live in.
Students can apply for a travel bursary to attend a self-identified independent summer school or short course. Independent summer schools are short-term academic courses hosted by non-partner universities during the summer or winter of the northern or southern hemisphere.
For more information on study-abroad opportunities, students can visit the Global Education Centre at SU International in Room 1017, RW Wilcocks Building, or email interoff@sun.ac.za.
