The footprint of Stellenbosch University (SU) can be found far and wide. In the last few months, representatives from the University travelled the world building new networks and partnerships.
From 28 April to 8 May 2018, for example, a delegation of staff members from SU International visited various faculties in Southeast Asia ˗ Nanyang Technical University in Singapore, the National University of Singapore (Engineering), Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong ˗ with the aim of exploring academic collaborations.
Members of the delegation included Prof Nico Gey von Pittius, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof Willie Perold, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof Pregala Pillay, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, Prof Resia Pretorius, Chairperson of the Department of Physiological Sciences in the Faculty of Science, Dr Shaheed Tayob, Lecturer in Sociology and Social Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Ms Huba Boshoff, Manager of the Centre for Partnerships and Internationalisation at SU International.

Also travelling to Brazil, SU International staff members Ms Huba Boshoff, Manager of the Centre for Partnerships and Internationalisation, and Ms Alecia Erasmus, Coordinator of Information Management and Erasmus+, attended the conference of the Association of Brazilian Universities for International Education in Rio de Janeiro from 14 to 18 April. They continued onto the University of São Paulo to explore collaborations in Business, the Arts and Humanities, and AgriSciences.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all of us. South Africa entered a national lockdown on 26 March 2020, and since then we at Stellenbosch University (SU) have worked tirelessly to find innovative ways of dealing with the impact of the pandemic and continuing our work in the new reality of business unusual.
