About the programme
The BTh (Part-time) degree entails a four-year programme for older students who are in ministry or considering a second career. This programme will equip them as community and religious leaders.
Why study this programme?
- Teaching and training, like research, are approached scientifically. Students, as co-participants, are guided, equipped and enabled to theologically engage with a pluralistic South African, African and global context to be socially relevant and inter-culturally competent.
- Students experience a welcoming and encouraging learning environment in which diverse transformative learning and sound theological frameworks are enhanced.
- Theoretical work is complemented by a practical, community-oriented accent on social issues.
- Students are taught in hybrid format (block contact sessions and online) to accommodate working students.
- Students receive academic support to bridge the demands of and adjustments to the academic environment.
Programme content
The programme includes modules on the subjects Old Testament, New Testament, Systematic Theology, Ecclesiology, Practical Theology and Missiology.

Admission requirements
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) aggregate of at least 60% (excluding Life Orientation) if matriculated in 2009 or later.
- An age of 30 years or older.
- Second career student (a student who is or was serving in another career) or serving in ministry.
- Successful completion of the faculty’s introductory and computer literacy short course on NQR level 5.
- Proof of ministry experience or a letter of motivation from a denominational head.
