THE GEMS PLATFORM

GEMS is a secure web-based informatics service for storing, cleaning, exploring, sharing and analysing data. It supports public-private co-development of analytic workflows linked to versioned agri-food data, producing reproducible results. GEMS was developed by the University of Minnesota and hosted at Stellenbosch University, thus ensuring that African data is hosted in Africa.

ENABLING FAIR(ER) RESEARCH

GEMS makes it easy for data scientists to create research-ready agri-food data, turn it into actionable information, and share it with partners (public and private) in a trustworthy environment. The GEMS Platform provides tools to standardise metadata via internationally-curated agri-food ontologies and controlled vocabularies so that data can become interoperable with other datasets.

Metadata can be published separately in the platform so that others can discover your data without access to the data itself until you provide them permission.
