Biography
Mmatlou was born in Moletjie Marowe, a village outside Polokwane in Limpopo. He is 5th in his family, a proud son of Petrus and Caroline Kubyana. Apart from the love of mathematics, he likes painting and decorating buildings, and play tennis. Ever ready to learn and try out new things.
Research
Mmatlou is interested in proposing mathematical models that are simplified caricatures of the natural world and building theories in ecology and evolution to understand how ecological systems are structured, function and change over time. His current project works on the emergence of different types of biotic interactions and network complexity in heterogeneous and changing environments. This research is intended to help decision-makers to understand more easily the contribution of biodiversity and achieve the sustainable development goals and targets.
