As we close off another year, the CGA would like to thank all their clients and collaborators and wish them happy holidays and a joyous new year! This last year has been a busy one for the CGA, with completing several successful projects, short courses, research, and development while dealing with the realities of COVID19. This success would not have been possible without the hard work of all CGA staff and partners. Specific highlights of 2021 include:
- The onset of the Climate Smart Agriculture project in collaboration with METOS SA and Pessl, supporting the ongoing research and development of the TerraClim project;
- The onset of the National water use quantification of indigenous forests project for the Water Research Commission;
- The launch and successful hosting of all CGA short courses in an online format, including two Introduction to GIS courses, two Introduction to Earth Observation courses, and one Advanced Earth Observation course;
Two qualifications were awarded to CGA staff in 2021, with Caley Higgs obtaining her MSc in Geoinformatics (cum laude) and Jessica Eichhoff obtaining a BA Honours in Geography and Environmental Studies.
We also bid farewell four of our staff members this year: Adriaan (Atman) Prins, who took up a position in Dublin, Ireland; Divan Vermeulen as a Developer and GIS Specialist at Kartoza; Christiaan Theron as a GIS/Data Analyst at Agrimotion Consulting; and Lauren McCarthy, who took up an au pairing position in the Netherlands. We wish them all the best as they progress in their careers. We have also welcomed James Kapp as a GIS & EO Operator and Caley Higgs as a GIS & EO Analyst.
Finally, we would like to thank our colleagues, collaborators and clients, who made 2021 a successful year at the CGA. We look forward to working with you in 2022.
