On the 20th of September five Students from Stellenbosch University presented their research and findings to the GIS community at the Western Cape GISSA quarterly meeting in Durbanville.

  • Michael Johnson (MSc) – Extraction of coastal ocean wave characteristic parameters using multispectral remote sensing and computer vision technologies.
  • Gerrit Low (PhD) – Object-based terrain analysis and soil spectroscopy in a fluvial terrace dominated landscape.
  • Liezl Vermeulen (Honours) – A novel approach to deriving landscape productivity using Google Earth Engine.
  • Julie Verhulp (Masters) – The development of a robust decision tree to classify land cover in the Eastern Cape.
  • Emma Lock (Honours) – An investigation into the contribution of interferometric coherence for burnt area mapping.
