The CGA presented its Introduction to GEOBIA short course to the Environment (NRE) Ecosystems Earth Observation Research Group at the CSIR campus in Pretoria from 14-17 August. The course was presented as part of the Trimble Innovation Programme (TIP) of which the CGA is an active member. The GEOBIA training made use of Trimble’s eCognition software and covered the basics of remotely sensed image analysis in an object-based environment, including segmentation; object features; supervised and rule-based classification; the use of thematic and ancillary data; object-based accuracy assessment; fuzzy classification; manual editing; template matching; and customised imports and image analysis workflow development. The course comprised four days of practical exercises in eCognition Developer, accompanied by lectures in theory, and was attended by 10 participants.
We thank the CSIR for their hospitality during our stay, as well as their active participation and engagement during the course.
