Junior Web/Software Developer

(Four months contract appointment)

The CGA specialises in the application of geographical information systems (GIS), satellite remote sensing and other geographical-analytical techniques to carry out research, training and service provision functions in this field.

Duties:
The role is primarily a support position within the CGA team, with a focus on web application development and maintenance. The CGA implements interactive geographically enabled web applications using HTML, JavaScript and CSS. Django is used for back-end development, and tabular data is stored in PostgreSQL databases. The candidate will be expected to assist in refining existing web applications and in creating new ones. Front- and back-end development will be required. Competency with Django will be beneficial but is not essential. The candidate will also be expected to be able to maintain version control with Git.

Requirements:

  • Two years completed towards a B degree which includes web and/or software development;
  • Proven experience in web and/or software development;
  • Competent in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Python (Django), Git.

Recommendations:

  • Training or experience in GIS scripting, basic remote sensing, OpenLayers, ArcGIS API for Javascript, ArcGIS Online, report-writing;
  • Ability to work well in a team, balance multiple projects, manage deadlines, and monitor,evaluate and adjust their work progress;
  • Competency with Django.
