On the 7th of August, the CGA and the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies were visited by Mr Mfanafuthi Gama of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Reform. He presented on the new National Spatial Planning Data Repository (NSPDR) which is being developed by his department. The NSPDR will be a readily accessible central repository created to enable sharing of spatial planning information and data across all spheres of government and the private sector.
The NSPDR seeks to incorporate reference web maps, basic geoprocessing tools, a document repository, dashboard facilitating reporting, and e-learning facilities, as well as additional links which may be useful in the geospatial framework. Discovering and accessing government data has traditionally been a laborious task for both academics and professionals in the geospatial sector, and this system has the potential to be a real game-changer in this regard. The CGA is very excited about this development.
For more information about the data repository, please visit the NSPDR info site.
The NsPDR and E-Lodgement project was first conceptualised in to assist in the implementation of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA). The solution will enable the sharing of spatial planning information and data across all three spheres of government, and the private sector and will aid municipalities in their spatial planning and land use management needs.
