In 2021 the CGA assisted the Research on Socioeconomic Policy (RESEP) team in developing an interactive map called the RESEP School Viewer. This web-based tool toggles the data of learner flows at different grades and levels of the system – national, provincial, education districts and wards. It is available for public access and users are able to download the images it produces.
The development of the Viewer took place in tandem with the compilation of the RESEP team’s report – Learner flows through schools: Using high quality administrative data to understand education system performance. The report brought to light that there are major inefficiencies in public spending on education and high dropout rates definitely have a negative effect on the numbers. An earlier study, however, showed that targeted interventions can improve education outputs. Therefore, we know that the school system can be enhanced when an effort is made.
