SUJC Celebrates Japan Day

The South African national holiday of Heritage Day, this year coincided with the 9th Japan Day which was organized by the Office of the Consul of Japan in Cape Town in collaboration with the Japanese Community in Cape Town and the City of Cape Town. This auspicious event took place on Saturday 24th September at Jan van Riebeeck High School in Gardens between 09:00 and 16:00.

The SUJC team invited students from Stellenbosch University (SU) to join and offered free transportation. Excitement among students and the SUJC team was abound on Saturday morning as the group prepared to head to Cape Town. The expectations of the students were surpassed, owing to the fantastic offerings of the day such as: Karate, aikido, kendo, kenjtsu, kyudo, judo, ikebana, cosplay, and Japanese food stalls.       

The air was abuzz at Jan van Riebeek High School due to the great attendance of the event. SUJC was grateful for the opportunity to have a stall on the day, to present on the work that it does, and to meet various stakeholders. Students of SU also expressed their satisfaction with the event and encouraged the SUJC team to continue involving them in such events.
