Sarah is a Professor in the Department of Curriculum Studies, Director of the Africa Centre for Scholarship, and Director of Unit for International Credentialling, Stellenbosch University International at Stellenbosch University. She is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and was a national rated researcher for many years. Her research interests are in large-scale assessments and quality assurance, and she has led more than 70 research projects. She is involved with doctoral research capacity development and participated in the SANPAD and SANTRUST research capacity development programmes for more than a decade. She served as Deputy-Chair of SAQA Board, member of Umalusi Assessment and Standards Committee. She is currently a member of the USAf Admissions Committee and Chair of the Coronation Education Board. Internationally, she was a member of the UNESCO-Brookings Institute international Learning Metrics Task Force for Post-primary ( Education for All 2015) She was also a member of international technical research committees associated with design and development of international large-scale assessments of the International Association for Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) (PIRLS 2011, 2016) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) (PISA 2015, PISA 2018). She is a member of a several Editorial Boards of international Journals including those in the Taylor and Francis and Elsevier publishing houses. She has published widely with about 50 internationally accredited and peer-reviewed articles, 35 book chapters and co-edited four books. She is a past winner of the National Science and Technology Forum: Most Innovative Individual Research.
