Richard Gibbs (MSc Biomathematics, Stellenbosch University)
Level: PhD
Supervisor: Prof. Cang Hui (Stellenbosch University)
Co-supervisor: Dr. Pietro Landi and Dr. Sandra MacFadyen (Stellenbosch University)
Biography
Richard Gibbs grew up on a farm in KwaZulu-Natal. As such, he has a deep love of the natural world and a vested interest in its preservation. He is an avid diver (scuba and free), an unformed artist, and an amateur Ballroom and Latin dancer.
Research
Richard’s research interests lie in effective resource management and shifting spatial dynamics affecting animal foraging and movement. His PhD attempts to model the holistic nature of spatially explicit environments with interacting foraging agents. With this, he hopes it will be possible to predict the sensitivity of certain ecological systems to environmental changes such as those caused by direct and indirect human interactions.
