Kenwinn Wiener is an environmental scientist with a diverse academic background, specialising in the interdisciplinary study of fluvial environments (streams, rivers and wetlands). He served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Nelson Mandela University on the NRF-funded African Origins project before joining the department as a lecturer in physical geography.
His research employs a multi-proxy approach to explore fundamental scientific challenges at the interface of fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, ecology, and biogeochemistry at a systems level. This research focus spans across multiple temporal and spatial scales and specifically seeks to understand 1) patterns and processes of sediment transport and phosphorus biogeochemistry, and 2) fluvial response to environmental change and anthropogenic activities.
