N5 (Beginners) Level Course in Japanese Starting Soon


Stellenbosch University Japan Centre (SUJC) in association with the Japanese Language Club of South Africa (JLCSA) is pleased to offer an online JLPT N5 (Beginners Level) Japanese language course at Stellenbosch University.

Classes will run during 9 May 2024 – 25 October 2024 every Thursday at 18:00 – 20:00.

Teaching will be online for a duration of 25 weeks, 2 hours per week.

The objective of the course is to prepare participants to take and attain the N5 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (kindly note that participants carry the responsibility for these arrangements themselves). 

In the course, students will learn to: 

  • Introduce themselves.
  • Ask and tell people names, majors at school, time, etc.
  • Ask and answer how much things cost.
  • Do shopping.
  • Order food in a restaurant.
  • Talking about daily activities
  • Extend, accept, and refuse invitations.
  • Ask and describe where things / people are.
  • Talk about things that happened in the past.
  • Talk about habitual actions in the past.
  • Talk about travel.
  • Describe people and things.
  • Make requests.
  • Ask for and give permission.
  • Talk about rules and regulations.
  • Give reasons for doing / not doing something.
